Spring, as zfoxylady says, truly is an expensive time of year. We start with legallybrunette's birthday, move into Lady Brass's birthday (not to mention mother's day sometime near or right on her birthday) and then, of course, my day of birth (most important). I have been wavering back and forth on how to prioritize my birthday list. Should I request the Chicago Manual of Style (look out, new collecting obsession: style manuals aka guides for writers), a frivolous potted plant in a vessel resembling a glass slipper, or simply an extravagant dinner out on the town? All sound good but the festivity deadline is looming and I'd better get serious.
Fortunately, I have already purchased Lady Brass's gifts (one involves, well, bling is about all I can say) and zfoxylady's were wrapped up in the Easter weekend that is past, so that leaves just one joyous occasion to focus on :D—mine!
In all seriousness I am more concerned about getting through the Lady Brass's events. Always, always, every single year the old man aka The Wilde Karrde manages to do something utterly urbane, hurtful, and demeaning. We are therefore going to attempt a different strategy this year: act like no major event is occurring and have a very minor and hardly mentioned affair. I shudder to tell you of stories past where certain gifts were not even wrapped or given so carelessly we all wanted to be elsewhere. Fortunately, The Wilde Karrde managed to do alright for legallybrunette. With cash one never can go wrong...
Here are some pics from the most recent birthday celebration. Legallybrunette specified a theme centered around red. I think part of the reason we enjoyed this dinner so much over previous occasions is that we didn't cook, just picked up take-out from Pei Wei. It was highly enjoyable, and true to our style, we took lots of pics.
And we danced to the best birthday song of all, "A very merry unbirthday, to you, to you..."
